Youth Strike for Christ 2009 June meeting minutes

This meeting is rescheduled for Saturday, July 12 at the Des Moines Conference Center.

Meeting was held at the Iowa United Methodist Church Conference Center in Des Moines from 10 am to 4 pm.  Lunch was provided for free. 

The Focus Statement for 2009 is:  Where ever we are in life and faith, Jesus invites us to follow

YSFC Mission Statement:  A faith building event for 7th thru 12th graders

Song for 2009 – Free Ride by Audio Adrenaline.

Possible Scriptures – Jeremiah 31:21, Matthew 28(19).  Continue to think and pray about other scriptures and be ready to discuss them at the next meeting.

Jim opened the meeting in prayer and devotions were followed by Kerry.  Game time was provided by Melissa and prizes donated from Jim.

This years’ theme “GOD TOUR” was discussed in depth and decided to change “Where Have You Been?  Where Are You Going?” to “Taking it on the Road”. 

The logo design will be #8 the God Tour Bus which will include the YSFC website.  It was also suggested to put “Event Crew” on the back of the Core Team t-shirts.

The budget was discussed and Jim reminded everyone to keep dollar amounts to ourselves and to contact him if you had any questions.  Core Team members will not have to pay for their hotel room as long as they room with three other team members.  Small group leaders will also be free as long as they room with three other individuals.

Miscellaneous supplies includes everything needed for the small groups and the adult sessions.

We will get the Ice Cream donated again this year.  Core team member Nathan Stueve, has a contact at Blue Bunny and will report at the August meeting if he was able to make a deal.

Jim discussed the responsibilities of the nurse needed at YSFC.  Sarah Asmus, one of our core team members is a nurse and might be interested in the nurse duties for 2009.

Mission Project for 2009 – Tina, Kerry, Brenda & Jake will head up the mission project (details to come).

Committee Updates:

  1. Design – The committee will be finalizing the t-shirt design and is working on the layout of the stage.
  2. Publicity/Facilities – Erica and Lisa will work with our event manager at Polk County Convention Center to get meal ideas.  Tina will contact Jason at the Marriott to see if other events will be taking place at the hotel during the weekend.  LuAnne will find volunteers to help during registration on Friday night.
  3. Entertainment – If you have any ideas for the entertainment, please email Margo and/or anyone else on this committee.
  4. Meat – Jim has challenged this committee to think-out-of-the box and come up with something different for Sunday Worship.

Announcements:

United Methodist YSF Day at Adventureland is September 13th.  The youth rally & celebration starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Palace Theater.  Core team members are encouraged and asked to wear last years YSFC t-shirt.  Over 200 t-shirts will be given away during the rally.

Our next scheduled meeting will be August 9th at the Iowa United Methodist Church Conference Center.
