YSFC 2009 April meeting minutes

Meeting will be held at the Iowa United Methodist Church Conference Center in Des Moines from 10am to 4pm.
Lunch will be provided for free.

The Focus Statement for 2008 is : Where ever we are in life and faith, Jesus invites us to follow

YSFC Mission Statement : A faith building event for 7th thru 12th graders

Jim opened the meeting in prayer and Jared provided the devotions.  We then played several get-to-know each other games.  Jim then explained our home page, the Core Team page and explained our mission and focus statement. 

The four main committee teams are:

  1. Design – This committee design the logo, the t-shirt, helps with lights, sound, running the powerpoint presentations, etc.
  2. Publicity/Facilities – This committee works with hotel, purchases all supplies needed for the event, works the registration/information and t-shirt tables during check-in and creates the program booklet
    sub teams:  Registration and Security
  3. Entertainment – This committee picks the main speaker, the guest speaker, finds the band(s) decides what we do during rec time, picks the host and arranges for travel for invited individuals/groups.
  4. Meat – This committee is responsible for the spiritual aspects of YSFC, Sunday Worship, small group and adult group materials and lessons, and work with the colleges.

 Our main speaker for 2009 is Bob Stromberg and Remedy Drive has been chosen for the band.  The location for our event will be held at Polk County Convention Center (Beth and Joan will be our contacts) and we will be staying at the Marriott Downtown Des Moines. 

 The theme for 2009 is:
   God Tour – YSFC 2009
Where have you been?   Where are you going?

 Early Bird registration will be $159 before Jan 1 and $189 after Jan 1, 2009.  We also discussed registration fee of $129 for those not wanting a hotel room.

 Annual Conference is June 6-8 which is before our next meeting set for June 14, 2008.  LuAnne Postel will work Eric to get YSFC information supplies to Annual Conference. If anyone can be at the table during Annual conference, please let Jim  or Eric know. 

Announcements: 

Free Christian music festival in Knoxville on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Knoxville recreation center. (Across the street from the Knoxville High School) Concerts start at 3pm.  The following bands are playing:
 - Superchic[k] at 7:00 p.m.
 - Elizabeth Hunnicutt
 - Inner Rain
 - Tempest Rose
 - etc...

 Anavox will be playing at Grinnell UMC on August 6th and they will be in Cedar Falls on August 3rd.
